HAN’s proactive approach to digital educational resources

HAN University of Applied Sciences has a proactive approach to digital educational resources. This has resulted not only in a vision but also a framework for sharing, using and reusing digital and open educational resources and a roadmap to 2035. Summary

In line with the Dutch Statement on the National Approach to digital and open educational resources (Nationale Verklaring Regie op Leermaterialen), HAN initiated an institution-wide “change programme – a proactive approach to digital educational resources” in 2023. The duration of this change programme, which is currently in its inaugural phase, is 12 years.

In this sprint session, Marijn Post and Michiel de Jong presented – on behalf of HAN – the origins of the change programme, the vision behind it and its integrated approach. The programme emphasises what HAN can implement at a local level while also identifying opportunities for national coordination and collaboration when it comes to digital educational resources.

Phase 1: A proactive approach

HAN has set goals for the coming 12 years and has divided these goals into four phases: 1. a proactive approach, 2. design, 3. implementation and 4. sustainability. In the first phase, which runs until January 2025, the aim is to take charge of the development, use/reuse and procurement of digital and open educational resources.

To this end, the programme team is developing a framework for sharing and use/reuse of open digital educational resources at HAN. The framework specifies which actions need to be taken for which components to achieve the goal.

The team will also deliver a roadmap for HAN that clearly describes the approach beyond 2025.

You can find an overview of all deliverables in Phase 1 of the above 5 components in the presentation (Slide 14).

In addition to providing insight into the vision and approach to digital educational resources in the sprint session, the presenters also shared user stories and practical examples for building a team and preparing deliverables. This is an inspiring example for the entire sector.
