What are CTLs?
The Centers for Teaching & Learning (CTLs) help teaching staff and educational professionals to update their education. They provide a central position at the institution for training, advice and assistance with education innovation.
Each of the public vocational education and training schools, universities of applied sciences and research universities should develop its own CTL in its own way, to reflect the institution’s distinct methods and culture. As a result, CTLs can take on a variety of forms, for example a physical location, an online platform or a department.
What do CTLs do?
CTLs have five core objectives, each revolving around digitalisation and tech expertise.
- Professionalism of teaching staff: facilitating support for the development of teaching staff.
- Knowledge sharing: facilitating access to and proactively sharing knowledge about education innovation.
- Innovation: driving education innovation as a way for teaching staff and management to actively help improve the education.
- Support: advising education management and providing direct assistance to teaching staff.
- Research: facilitating research on educational innovation in an evidence-informed manner.
National CTL knowledge networks
Sharing knowledge is an important theme for Centers for Teaching & Learning. It is wonderful to see, then, the increasing level of connection and mutual cooperation between CTLs at the national level, in the form of various CTL networks. These networks learn from each other by exchanging knowledge and sharing experiences, and so the separate institutions can help each other with setting up and improving their CTLs.
