Continuation of pilot portal for digital learning materials in mbo
At the end of June, the MBO Council and Npuls completed the digital learning materials pilot. The result was impressive: a portal with around 300 digital learning materials for the Engineering and Built Environment sector. After the summer, new pilot projects will be launched to connect other industry groups and projects of the MBO Council, so that sharing and finding learning materials becomes an integral part of MBO education.
First version of the portal
The aim of the pilot was to jointly develop a single central portal with digital learning materials that meets the demand and needs of vocational education and training (VET) for accessible and reusable digital learning materials. Technology and the Built Environment (TGO) was the first sector to be involved and now has its own portal. Since March 2025, teachers, instructors and developers at vocational education institutions and (training) companies have been able to easily search for, find and reuse learning materials here. Vocational education institutions are set to further expand their range of open, semi-open and commercial learning materials.
We have managed to realise a mature, shareable and user-friendly first version of the portal at a relatively fast pace. With the involvement of a broad group of people from the domain. That is a great compliment to everyone who contributed to it. Jaap Beernink – director of Deltion College

One portal for the complete mbo
During the pilot, work was done on a standard design for a portal with reusable components from services such as edusources and SURFsharekit. The portal is now ready for further growth and expansion within vocational education. The ambition is that the other eight industry groups and projects of the MBO Council that have shown interest will also be able to join. In this way, we are working together to build a single joint portal where digital learning materials from vocational education come together. Clear, findable and accessible to everyone.
Collaboration is the key
This pilot was made possible by collaboration between vocational education institutions (united in the TGO Industry Group) and Npuls, as well as SURF, MBO Digitaal, Kennisnet, publishers/content providers, training companies, R&D funds and the business community. The vocational education institutions involved include: Talland College, Deltion, Alfa-college, ROC Gilde en ROC van Amsterdam, Graafschap College, ROC Gilde, Summa College, Curio, Zadkine, ROC Rivor, Vonk nh, Scalda, Vista College, Noorderpoort, MBO Utrecht, Techniek College Rotterdam, Landstede mbo en Hoornbeeck College, ROC Nijmegen en TCR.
More information en sign up
In collaboration with the pilot participants, the “MBO Learning Materials Working Group” was created, a community that shares knowledge and experiences. Are you going to start using digital learning materials at your MBO school? Sign up for this working group. The Network Leermiddelen & Schoolkosten, which consists of employees involved in teaching materials policy, may also be of interest.
