Npuls at the SURF Onderwijsdagen 2025

The SURF Onderwijsdagen (OWD) will be held on 11 and 12 November at Amare in The Hague. Meet colleagues from across the education sector and be inspired by keynotes, interactive sessions and practical examples.

In the lead: Connecting National Agendas with Local Action (ENG)

Who is truly in the lead in digital transformation — and how does that differ across Europe? In this international panel, speakers from four national organisations — Sarah Knight from Jisc (UK), Hanna Nordlund from Digivisio (Finland), Oliver Janoschka from Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (Germany), and Christien Bok from SURF (Netherlands) — compare how governance, culture, and structure shape who takes responsibility for change.

Discover the new national AII facility – the future of Application, Enrolment and Registration (NL)

What does the future of student application and enrolment look like? In 2025, SURF, Npuls, MBO Digitaal and Studielink jointly launched the development of a brand-new facility: AII. This will replace Studielink and CAMBO, making the study process simpler, more flexible and seamless for students.

Shaping the Assessment Transition (NL)

Many institutions are redesigning their assessment practices. There is a clear shift towards forms of assessment that support student development — such as formative assessment and programme-wide testing — increasingly in digital form. This session offers an insight into how VET, higher professional and university institutions are approaching assessment redesign, both substantively and technically. Discover which tools and guidelines Npuls is developing in collaboration with them.

AI Literacy: Putting Students at the Centre (NL)

Do you think of students when you think of AI? While AI literacy is receiving growing attention in education, existing frameworks mainly focus on teachers. In this workshop, students take centre stage: what should they know and be able to do? In three interactive rounds, we explore together with students the knowledge, skills and attitudes required — and connect these insights to a new, student-oriented framework from Npuls. Together we’ll build a relevant, practical framework for AI literacy in further and higher education.

Teaching Support Staff as Pillars of Educational Innovation: Two Competence Profiles (NL)

Educational innovation is about more than technology: it requires an integrated approach where education, organisation and policy come together. Teaching support staff play a key role in this, but their role differs between institutions. In this session, you’ll get to know two complementary competence profiles for teaching support professionals — one developed by Npuls and one by iXperium. Together they form a shared framework for professional development and strategic deployment. Reflect on their relevance within your own institution and gain practical tools — whether you are a support professional yourself or work on educational policy.

Strengthening a Learning Culture (NL)

What informs your choices when innovating education? An evidence-informed approach helps make thoughtful decisions based on research and practice. Yet, in reality, this can be difficult — due to time pressure or information overload. In this session, we explore together why evidence-informed working can be challenging, what barriers exist, and how we can learn from one another. Step by step, we’ll strengthen a shared learning culture across education.

Lifelong Learning in Finland: building a nationwide platform (ENG)

XR Content for Everyone: Find, Share, Create! (NL)

This session takes you through the platform’s development — from idea to first prototypes — in collaboration with a broad community of teachers, IT professionals, policy makers and suppliers. Community Collections in the Spotlight (NL)

European Perspectives on Generative AI in Education: What’s next? (ENG)

In this international panel, we bring together a wide range of European perspectives to look into at European innovation with and around generative AI and how different educational futures are envisioned. Eduwallet Demonstration (NL)

See how an eduwallet can be used in education! To give learners greater control over their own development, various digital elements need to be organised around the learner. A personal eduwallet — including a digital identity (such as eduID) and learning outcomes (including edubadges) — can be a key tool for lifelong learning. Within Npuls and across Europe, this concept is being tested through educational pilots.

OpenUp: Working Together on Open Learning Materials (NL)

In this interactive workshop, participating institutions share their experiences with creating FAIR and open learning materials. You’ll see what steps they have taken, the approaches they chose, and what results they achieved in practice. Since September 2024, 24 institutions from VET, higher professional and university education have joined OpenUp, receiving support and using the impact scan to develop targeted action plans. This session offers inspiration and practical insights to enhance impact within your own institution — whether you are a teacher, policy maker or content developer.

Through short pitches and discussions, we’ll explore the future of monitoring — from strategic policy to personal development.

EdTech: Simple, Innovative and Safe Procurement (NL)

Buying EdTech can be complex. The EdTech Marketplace helps institutions procure technology more easily, lawfully, and with respect for public values — while also giving smaller providers a fair chance. This session offers practical insights from the ongoing evaluation, covering topics such as intellectual property and public values in procurement. Each theme is introduced musically and explained clearly.

The Discovery Tool (ENG)

How can institutions effectively assess the digital skills of education professionals and translate those insights into meaningful action? Since 2017, Jisc’s discovery tool has supported UK institutions as part of the broader building digital capability programme, helping individuals and teams develop their digital competences. In this session, Jisc will demonstrate how the discovery tool works, the types of insights it generates, and how it is used personally and strategically across institutions in the UK and internationally. The session will combine demonstration with reflection on impact and include space for questions and discussion.

Centres for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) as change agents for innovation (ENG)

Centres for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) are seen as change agents for educational innovation. But how do you show that they truly make a difference? In this panel discussion, representatives from various educational institutions as well as the national Npuls programme will discuss the role of CTLs in driving educational innovation with ICT. We will explore concrete examples, critical questions, and strategies to make impact visible. You and the other participants will also be actively involved in the conversation.

How can digital learning materials be made sustainable and future-proof without losing sight of public values? In this session, you’ll get to know the Lifecycle of Digital (Open) Learning Materials and the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). Whether you’re a teacher, policy adviser or information manager, you’ll leave with practical tools for using learning materials more smartly and ethically.

BOP in Motion: The Impact of OKx on Policy, Organisation and Processes (NL)

XR in Focus: Perspectives for the Education of Tomorrow (NL)
