Providing the best education on an ongoing basis requires strong commitment from teacher support services. Teacher support focuses on guiding and strengthening teachers, teams and management. More and more institutions, with or without a Centre for Teaching & Learning (CTL), are looking for ways to organise teacher support in a professional and future-oriented manner. But what knowledge, skills and attitudes are needed to contribute effectively as a teacher support professional? Wat?

The competency profile for network teacher support provides language, structure and direction for the tasks of a teacher support worker in secondary vocational education, higher professional education and university education. Teacher support is described here as the totality of activities that strengthen teachers, teams and management in their efforts to continuously provide the best possible education. The competency areas described can be seen as building blocks that together form the foundation of teacher support. It offers a shared starting point for institutions that want to strengthen their support, whether this is done within a CTL or through separate initiatives. Because teacher support almost always takes place within a network, the profile is not an individual format but a flexible tool. It makes teacher support visible, supports development and strategic deployment, and is in line with the ambitions of the educational institution.

The profile is intended for anyone who contributes to strengthening teacher support in secondary vocational education, higher professional education and university education. Teacher support staff can use it to clarify their role and give direction to their professional development. Managers and colleagues can use it to bring cohesion to teams and to clarify expectations. Policy advisers, project leaders and staff in the field of personnel policy, including HR, will also find tools for selection, guidance and strategic positioning in the profile.
